Het Reizend Tafelkleed2024
When I moved to Ghent, I missed dining together with friends and family. I did not yet have the tradition of ending the day together here in Ghent. Apart from the personal lack, I also felt a great need to bring people closer together and engage in conversation without cell phones and social media, but really being in the moment. I created a traveling tablecloth that captures and cherishes the moments of dining together. Every time I eat with people, I take the tablecloth with me and ask people to draw their rituals and actions while dining on the tablecloth. Furthermore, the tablecloth has a telephone pocket so that people are really in the moment during the dinner. I later hand embroider the actions drawn on the tablecloth, each dinner has its own color. The napkins are a legender of the tablecloth. Each napkin refers to a particular dinner party, with the place, date and people who attended embroidered on it. Furthermore, I embroidered my own interpretation and memories of that dinner on the napkin.
